The University of East Anglia is proud of the increasing diversity of its campus and works with staff, students and organisations around Norwich and Norfolk, regionally and nationally to achieve its aim of being an inclusive place for study and work. The Equality and Diversity Office at the University of East Anglia helps pull together work that takes place on equality matters right across the campus. Their work covers both staff and students, and their office is based in Room 0.32 in The Registry and Council House.

Among the many equality & diversity initiatives the university supports, the Athena Swan Awards recognise commitment to and progress in advancing women’s careers in science, technology, engineering, maths, and medicine in higher education and research.

Our Athena Swan Journey Our Athena Swan Journey

Our journey to Silver started when the Norwich Medical School submitted its unsuccessful Athena Award submission in November 2012. However, having reviewed the feedback and recognising what we needed to achieve, we successfully put in our second bid for Bronze in November 2013. In  July 2014, members of the SEESAW committee, attended the awards ceremony, hosted by Durham University, to collect the Bronze Award on behalf of Norwich Medical School and the SEESAW. For the Bronze Award, Norwich Medical School was commended for ‘considering all posts for part-time and flexible working'.

Attending the awards ceremony provided a real impetus to positively move forward with our Silver Application which was submitted in November 2014.
