Welcome from Professor David Richardson Welcome from Professor David Richardson

Vice Chancellor David Richardson

Welcome to the University of East Anglia. It is my pleasure to introduce UEA and to encourage you to find out more about us.

UEA was founded in 1963 as part of the ‘new wave' of 1960s institutions that expanded the university sector in the UK. Ever since the first concrete was poured, UEA has prided itself on its interdisciplinary ethos and our ability to shape new disciplines that respond to the grand challenges facing the world. We have led the way in shaping discipline such as environmental sciences, development studies and creative writing and these remain key elements of our academic work across four faculties of Arts and Humanities, Medicine and Health Sciences, Science and Social Sciences.

We are proud of our close relationship with the City of Norwich, the County of Norfolk and our region. With our partners on the Norwich Research Park, and with significant Government investment, we have one of the most highly-cited concentrations of research scientists anywhere in the UK. We are also proud to support Norwich as England's first UNESCO City of Literature and to play an active role in the New Anglia Local Enterprise Partnership.

I have worked at UEA for more than 20 years and the institution, my colleagues and our students never cease to amaze and inspire me. We have become truly an international university, welcoming students from over 100 countries to study with us.

And we continue to develop new programmes, opening a medical school and starting courses in subjects as diverse as energy engineering and paramedic science in recent times.

I do hope that you will take the time to explore what we have to offer, in person or via our website and social media. Whatever means you chose, you will always be very welcome.
